Black vitroceramic glass for induction cooktops, available in 4 mm and 6 mm thicknesses. Low thermal expansion, good thermal stability, and customized sizes, shapes, colors, and screen printing available.
Black vitroceramic glass is a glass-ceramic material designed for induction cooktops, electric ceramic hobs, and other cooking appliance panels. It combines very low thermal expansion with high thermal stability, good mechanical strength, and resistance to rapid temperature changes.
The material is also commonly described as ceramic glass or glass-ceramic in cooktop applications. Vatti Glass supplies black, white, clear, and other customized options in 4 mm and 6 mm thicknesses. Panels can be manufactured in standard or custom sizes and shapes according to application requirements and technical drawings.
Ceramic glass is used as the top surface of many induction and electric cooktops. During cooking, the panel is exposed to repeated heating and cooling, localized high temperatures, and temperature differences between the heated area and the cooler edge.
For these applications, the material needs to maintain its surface integrity and dimensional stability under thermal stress. Our vitroceramic glass is designed with very low thermal expansion and good resistance to thermal shock, making it suitable for cooktop panel applications.
Key properties include:
Very low coefficient of thermal expansion
High thermal stability
Resistance to thermal shock and temperature differences
Good mechanical properties
Good chemical corrosion resistance
High light transmission
Smooth polished surface
Support for screen printing
Custom sizes and shapes
Multiple color options
Vitroceramic glass is a glass-ceramic material produced through controlled crystallization. Its structure provides a combination of glass-like surface characteristics and high thermal stability.
In cooking appliances, this material is used where the panel needs to tolerate repeated heating and cooling while maintaining a smooth and stable surface.
Depending on the industry or application, the product may be referred to as vitroceramic glass, vitro ceramic glass, ceramic glass, or glass-ceramic.
For induction cooktops, the material provides a flat and smooth surface above the heating area and can be processed to meet different appliance designs.
Black ceramic glass is a common choice for cooktop panels because of its clean appearance and compatibility with functional and decorative printing.
The black surface can be combined with screen printing for:
Control markings
Heating-zone indicators
Temperature or power symbols
Brand logos
Decorative patterns
Vatti can also provide white, clear, and other color options according to the customer's product design and application requirements.

Very Low Thermal Expansion
Low thermal expansion is one of the key properties of glass-ceramic materials used for cooktop panels.
The coefficient of mean linear expansion is approximately:
α (20–700°C): (0 ± 0.5) × 10⁻⁷/K
The very low expansion helps reduce dimensional changes when the panel is exposed to repeated heating and cooling.
Thermal Shock Resistance
Cooktop panels can experience rapid temperature changes during operation. Our ceramic glass is tested for resistance to thermal shock under specified conditions.
In the stated thermal shock test, a hot panel at approximately 760°C is quenched with cold water at approximately 20°C. Under these specified test conditions, the panel shows no cracking caused by thermal stress.
This test result describes the performance under the stated test method and should not be interpreted as a recommended continuous operating temperature.
Resistance to Temperature Differences
During cooking, the heated zone of a cooktop panel can be significantly hotter than its surrounding areas.
The panel is tested for resistance to temperature differences between the heated zone and the cooler edge. Under the specified test conditions, the panel shows no cracking caused by thermal stress at a test temperature of up to approximately 760°C.
Actual operating conditions depend on the appliance design, heating method, installation, and heat distribution.
Bending Strength
The bending strength is approximately 36 MPa.
The bending strength test is carried out according to DIN EN 1288 Part 5 (R45).
Modulus of Elasticity
The modulus of elasticity is approximately:
93 × 10³ MPa
This property describes the material's response to mechanical deformation and is relevant to the structural performance of cooktop panels.
Impact Resistance
Ceramic glass panels may also be subjected to mechanical impact during installation and use.
Under the specified impact test, a steel ball with a diameter of 60 mm and a weight of approximately 188 g is dropped from a height of 180 mm and strikes the panel 10 times.
Under the stated test conditions, the tested panel shows no scratching or cracking.
Chemical Resistance
Vitroceramic glass provides good resistance to chemical corrosion, which is useful for cooktop surfaces that may come into contact with food residues, cleaning agents, and other substances during normal use.
Light Transmission
The material provides high light transmission and can be combined with screen printing to create functional and decorative surface designs.
